“Get Faster” Ride Series

Are you tired of being the last one to finish a ride? Does the SAG driver behind you yelling “Last rider” to everyone drive you nuts? Do his head lights bother you because you started your 20 mile ride before dawn? Is the Finish line packed up and gone before you get there? I won’t even ask how it feels to get passed by a 5 year old on training wheels, or seeing the kid at the finish in their pajamas ready to go to bed. If any of this rings a bell then these rides could be for you. We’ll be using the age-old, tried & true, never fail training techniques of Ridicule, Core and Interval Training to help build strength and get faster.
Ridicule: Riders ridicule each other into going faster and not looking like dorks. This is sometimes known as talking trash, or whining.
Core Training: Is a long duration ride at a moderate pace where your breathing is easy enough to whine about the ride being too slow.
Interval Training: Is when a rider needs to show off and pulls ahead. The rest pursue, catch up and battle it out for the very short INTERVAL it takes to get out of breath.
The group then slows back to the Core pace allowing them to catch their breath, brag about their speed, make excuses for not keeping up and to resume whining until somebody else needs to show off.
These are DROP WITH PRIDE RIDES for intermediate to advanced riders so there will be NO SWEEP RIDER. Please no MTB, hybrids or commuter bikes unless you’re fast enough to brag about keeping up on them. Any rider is welcome who is serious about getting better and faster as you can usually find somebody of comparable speed and skill to ride with. You may have to find your way back alone if you’re dropped, but that won’t last long.
The first ride is the Buffalo Bayou Bike trail through Terry Hershey and George Bush Park to Fry Road and back (~37 miles). We do need to be conscience of pedestrian traffic for the first part of the ride. The second ride will be the double loop in Fulshear (~37 miles). I’ll be looking for feedback on how far people are willing to drive for a ride and try to come up with other routes. We’ll also join some other organized rides such as varying Bike Barn locations. Route slips and/or maps will be provided for new routes.
Come on out and get faster. Don’t miss a ride, we’ll be trashing you if you do :)
