Buffalo, Heights and White Oak Bayous Ride
Chock-up some traffic-free, inner-city miles on this three-trail ride

Like to get some workout bike miles in, in town, without dealing with city streets and traffic? Here’s my plan…
Meet at the Skate Park Plaza at the north end of the Sabine Street bridge at 9:00 am. We’ll ride along west Buffalo Bayou trail to Shepherd and back, continue on to UHDT and hook up with the Heights Trail. We’ll take that to where it hooks up with the White Oak trail, which then streaks northwards all the way to West Little York, the turnaround point.
This ride is good for 34 or so miles, not including doing the out and back to Shepherd again, which is usually too busy by then anyways. And, I like to do this a good, steady clip… you know, for the exercise and caloric burn… and average at least 12 miles per hour! Wow!
There should be some parking in the small lot on Sabine, or on the street itself. When it gets busy, there’s additional parking along Allen Parkway, just west of the bridge. It’s metered, with a 3 hr. max, for only $1.00.
So if you’re up for a mild burn, sign you and your bike up for this. A road bike or fast hybrid is best unless you’re capable of Herculean speeds on your mountain bike. Will be resched. if really rainy.
I imagine there’d be interest in a less intense, more socially-paced version of this and will probably accommodate in the not too distant future.
